Are you ignoring regular cyber-security recommendations? Well, it turns out the NHS did which in-turn led to widespread disruption across the organisation. An investigation by the National Audit Office has found several shortcomings in the NHS’s approaches to cyber security.
Earlier this year the NHS, which deals with over 1 million patients every 36 hours was hit by the WannaCry ransomware. The attack that locked users out of their accounts and demanded a fee to release the data. More than a third of the 236 NHS trusts in the UK were affected.
The report showed that the NHS had still been using Windows XP machines despite many warnings not to. If you still use a Windows XP machine you are putting your business at a considerable risk of a cyber attack. Microsoft also recently announced that they would no longer support Office 2007. Using either of these operating systems is like not having a lock on the front door to your business.
Don’t be like the NHS
If you ignore cyber security recommendations, you’re putting your business at the same risks as the NHS. At least 7000 cancelled appointments caused months of backlog on the systems. Would your business be able to deal with widespread disruption like the NHS? How much money would you lose in a minute, an hour, a day, a week if a cyber attack hit your business?
It may never get revealed how much damage the attack did, but we do know it hit over 150 countries. If organisations followed the correct cyber security procedures, there would have been significant reductions to the attack’s damage.
Your business should have a clear and well documented cyber security protocol and keep it updated regularly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”How Cyber Secure is your Business?” h4=”Take our Cyber Security Grader” color=”black” add_button=”bottom” btn_title=”Go to our Grader” btn_style=”classic” btn_shape=”square” btn_color=”primary” btn_size=”lg” btn_link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fsuperfast-it.com%2Fcyber-security-grader%2F|||”]How do your cyber security defences stack up?
